"Up to 25% of those with autism could be considered nonverbal" Lisa Jo Rudy, 2016*
From the Davis perspective, failure to develop language is often a result of incomplete individuation. Individuationis what takes place during early childhood development when a child becomes aware that he is a separate individual, with opinions and feelings that are different from those held by others. Children with autism either fail to complete this step in development, or regress after beginning down the path.
Ronald Davis developed a specifically engineered unit to encourage nonverbal individuals towards individuation and orientation – gaining accurate perception and an awareness of self. This unit is called the NOIT™ - Natural Orientation Inducing Tool. It allows the individual to complete the individuation stage - the first stage of A Davis Autism Approach Program.
The NOIT is available for purchase through a licensed Davis Autism Approach® Facilitator/Coach.
Failure to develop language is often accompanied by other challenges – in the areas of focus, attention, self-care, and social and emotional function. Almost all exhibit ritualistic or repetitive behaviours (often called stims) or engage in self-injury (NOIT Research)
“Simply put, the Davis therapy including the NOIT has allowed us to meet our son for the very first time. We thank God everyday for answering prayer by introducing this program to our family. “ Daniel and Sara
